Abstract: The article is devoted to one of the central problems within the social service activity that is its methodical organization work. At first glance this issue relates to the organizational and administrative sphere, and it does not correlate with the main purpose of the social service, which is to provide social services to the population. However, the author's position implies the statement that the improvement of methodological work in social service institutions allows to increase the professional level of specialists and the level of the work organization within the social service itself, which ultimately contributes to improving the quality of the social services provided to the population. The analysis of a few scientific papers on organization of the methodological work in the social service allowed authors to expand a terminological field of the problem by clarifying the content of the concept – “methodological work in the social service”. The article outlines the purpose, tasks, functions, various classifications of forms (traditional (collective and individual), modern active) of the methodological work in the social service. All the data allowed to determine the content of the most methodical work in the modern social service. In addition, the authors conducted their empirical study taking as respondents many specialists of social service institutions from various regions and subjects of the Russian Federation. So, the results of the survey made it possible to identify actual problems in the organization of methodological work, as well as to clear up the features of its organization. Among the most significant ones are the absence of a “methodologist” position in some institutions’ personnel and, consequently, a full-fledged methodological service in the institution, and as a result, the lack of assistance to specialists in their professional growth. The respondents noted in order to organize or improve methodological work in social service institutions it is worth organizing the training of specialists in the social sphere innovations, the interaction between institutions from other regions to make analysis on the shortcomings and to exchange experience in organizing the methodological work, as well as studying and using the experience of methodological work in other countries.
