Abstract. The implementation of the state policy on the preservation and strengthening of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values necessitated the organization of special work with employees of the federal penitentiary system – conducting a series of lectures on the Russian language in professional training classes. This article presents the experience of conducting such lectures based on the results of pedagogical research on andragogy, teaching and upbringing methods. The author characterizes the main methodological provisions that determined the content of classes, the choice of individual techniques and means of teaching and upbringing: professionally oriented, ensuring inclusion in a wide cultural context and having novelty information for the audience. Besides under author’s analysis there were the need for emotional impact, including the learning tools; the implementation of the interactive nature of the lesson. The content of the lecture material includes information related to the analysis and generalization of information from regulatory documents, legal practice; the history of the Russian language; experiments and facts of literature. The article provides illustrative material on all topics of the lecture series. The information presented in the article can be of  practical use both in the methodological aspect in the development of cultural and educational lectures on various topics, and in determining the content of lectures on the Russian language for lawyers.
