Abstract
The relevance of the study is connected with the interest in local history, the history of everyday life, issues of interaction with the Western world during Stalinism, as well as the desire to recreate a holistic picture of the daily life of the new industrial center, created during the first five years. The article reflects the main trends in the daily life of the population of Magnitogorsk in 1929-1937. The daily life study of new industrial cities in the period of forced industrialization both at the all-Union level and in regional aspects is presented in a significant number of works. Despite a wide range of studies in line with the study of everyday life of new cities, earlier historians did not focus on the analysis of daily life of the new city through the prism of assessments of Soviet and foreign citizens who participated in the construction. For the objective study of the research problem, an integrated approach was used, which involves the use of General scientific and special scientific methods, as well as methods of interdisciplinary areas of historical research. Historical-comparative, historical-system and retrospective methods were applied in this work. A set of approaches to local history provided significant assistance in revealing the topic. On the basis of various sources (unpublished records, materials of periodicals, memories of Magnitogorsk), the author concludes about the diverse material and socio-cultural base in the life of foreign and Soviet citizens in Magnitogorsk and the significant impact of mentality on the features of everyday life in the city.
Keywords: history, history of everyday life, USSR, Ural, Magnitogorsk, foreign specialists and workers, way of life.
