Abstract
The article deals with the peculiarities of cognition and conceptualization by professionals of special subjects, phenomena, their properties and relationships during the whole everyday activity, as well as the mechanisms for obtaining and verbalizing knowledge in the terminology field and professional substandard. It is exactly that the metaphorical names are widely presented in this field. These figure names created on cognitive reference points are the focus of the author's attention. In addition, the paper describes the most effective methods and modes of metaphorical names of things; analyzes the theoretical views of Russian and foreign linguists on the peculiarities of cognitive metaphor; points out on the use of correlative terms – "cognitive point of reference", "cognitive reference point". The author considers the term "cognitive reference points" as a proper term to denote the allegorical and figure schematic meanings of objects or their characteristics that to be perceived, interpreted, and cognized. In the article the most popular types of cognitive reference points are in detail presented and explained – place of points – they are bright and significant for series of professional objects in accordance with semantic opposition, e.g.: ”top - bottom” ,”front – back”. Such knowledge becomes a reference point for the conceptualization of objects that are beyond direct visual contact. And for a specialist, it does not matter whether the newly created name reveals the essence of a particular subject; it is enough that it is like any vivid feature of the latter, relevant to members of the professional environment. Thus, metaphorical names in which cognitive names are implemented perform important identification functions in the field of professional knowledge.
Keywords: professional language, cognitive reference point, nomination, special object, term, professionalism.
