Abstract. The article examines archival sources that served as the basis for preparation of a multivolume publication on the history of Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University. The relevance of the study is caused by the need to strengthen the patriotic education of youth and respect to traditions of the past generations. The history of a higher educational institution provides quite fertile material for students’ assessment. It is quite important to search and achieve positive results in the formation of personality using the entire arsenal of educational influence in educational, scientific and extracurricular work. Analysis of archival sources on the history of NMSTU allow to see the meaning of

the activities of the administration and the entire staff increasing the university prestige, not only among other universities, but through its graduates – among enterprises and organizations. The source analysis of the origins helps to determine the variety of materials for research, allowing to display most fully both the quality of documents and the reliability and novelty of the content. Scientific novelty is ensured by the fact that archival documents are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, and there are also no similar works of the source analysis on the history of NMSTU. The purpose of the study is to reveal the significance of an archival document in the cultural landscape when studying the NMSTU history. The object of study is archival sources on the history of NMSTU, and the subject is qualitative characteristics, features of documents, and their content. The results of the study of archival sources on the university history indicate that basically the documents meet the criteria for conducting analytical and synthetic work, applying both general scientific and special research methods. These sources are generally complete, reliable, and quite new. The practical results of the study open up opportunities for interdisciplinary study on certain aspects of the university’s activities.
