Abstract. Utopian type of consciousness has multiple manifestations in history and culture. Utopia can be considered as a form of realization of social forecasting and positive and progressive phenomenon for the development of human civilization; as a form of social limitation, leading to a totalitarian ideology, inspiring fruitless hopes, forming false values and ideals. The technical and technological capabilities of modern humanity have strengthened the idea of the attainability of heaven on earth and the dream of creating ideal social relations. The question “How to arrange life?” is inseparable from the search for the ideal space. Finding a place (perfect locus) means running time and bringing the dream closer. Not hundreds, but tens of thousands of scientific treatises have been written about utopia, however, this point has not yet been reached. This was proved by the II All-Russian (with international participation) interdisciplinary scientific conference "Utopian projects in the history of culture on the theme "The City of the Sun ": in search of an ideal locus", which was held in Rostov-on-Don, 6-8 December, 2018, at the site of Southern Federal University (with financial support from Russian Foundation for Basic Research). The scientific forum was dedicated to the 450th anniversary of the birth of T. Campanella, the Italian philosopher, revolutionary, utopian socialist, theologian, author of the cult utopia "The City of the Sun". The article contains an overview of interesting and diverse reports, as well as general results of the conference.

Keywords: utopia, utopian type of consciousness, Tomaso Campanella, interdisciplinary scientific conference, philosophy, cultural studies, philology, history, sociology.
