Abstract
The article provides information about the transcript of V. V. Maksakov’ report “On the Institute’s Relationship with Archives and Archival Institutions”, dated October 27, 1955 and made at the Academic Council meeting of Moscow State Institute of History and Archives. In the report V. V. Maksakov denied the presence the deficiencies in the work of the institute raised in the letter of the Main Archival Administration of the RSFSR Ministry of the Interior with archives. In the letter, the professors of the institute were accused of refusing to provide assistance to archival bodies in their scientific, methodological and organizational activities. The scientist enumerated activities of the institute connected with archival bodies: a group of professors was members of the academic councils of the State Agrarian University, central state archives and the Moscow Regional State Archives; some professors were members of the GAU commissions – methodical, editorial, Central Expert Commission and expert commissions in the archives. The most qualified professors wrote reviews of methodological documents worked out by the State Agrarian University and reviews of document digests, participated in compiling the Basic Rules for Publishing Documents, edited, wrote and reviewed papers for the Historical Archive journal and lists of ministry and department documentary materials. Referring to the shortcomings in the work of the institute, V. V. Maksakov reported that the scientific work at the departments sometimes omitted serious, important methodological and organizational issues raised by the practice of archival construction such as an integrated method for processing documentary materials, large complexes of archival funds redistributing, centering archival funds of regional importance in central state archives. He proposed a number of activities to organize a closer cooperation of the academic staff with archival institutions. The paper presents the information about the cooperation of the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the Historical Archives Institute as well as the results of students’ practical work in the archives.
