Abstract. The author presents an overview of the materials and outcomes of the International Scientific Conference "Russian Language and Languages of the Peoples of Russia: Problems of Interaction, Development Prospects," held November 19–20, 2025, at the Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University and funded by the Russian Science Foundation under Project No. 23-18-20045, “Creating a Nagaybak Script as a Basis for Preserving the Unique Culture and Language of One of the Small Ethnic Groups of the Southern Urals”. Participants of the international conference highlighted changes occurring in the speech repertoire of the unwritten Nagaybak people and other small ethnic groups in Russia. Researchers diachronically analyzed both attempts at conscious assimilation and the targeted preservation of the Nagaybak language. They emphasized the linguistic, linguistic-methodological, organizational, and political aspects of the emerging risks of language loss. Thanks to the work of Magnitogorsk scientists and language activists, the Nagaybaks received their own written language and linguistic and methodological support for the educational process as well. The conference outlined a strategy for further actions and collaboration for researchers, native speakers, and people mastering the language of their ethnicity, the public, and local governments. The forum enriched the scientific process with new methods for studying issues of ethnicity and preserving the languages of the peoples of Russia by combining traditional and new methods (cyberethnography) of data collection and analysis. The history of the Nagaybaks and their language enables us to understand the causes and mechanisms of new identities emergence.
