Abstract. The relevance of this study lies in the growing popularity of social media and the increasing sensitivity of the online community to the actions and statements of public figures. The research focuses on the phenomenon of “cancel culture” in social media, which is examined through the lens of modern linguistic theories such as sociolinguist tics and pragmatics. The study explores the linguistic and cultural behaviours of online personalities that lead to their cancelation, as well as the characteristics of online discourse in video blogs that contribute to canceling public figures. to contribute new insights into this growing phenomenon. The practical significance of this research lies in the description of discursive characteristics that contribute to cancellation, as well as potential use of research material in translation to prevent conflicts based on incorrect formulations. Theoretical significance lies in contributing to the study of cancel culture as a new phenomenon in sociolinguistics. Research material includes English-language videos from various genres (commentaries, podcasts, video essays) and live broadcasts on YouTube. Methodological basis includes general scientific methods (induction, deduction, analysis) and linguistic methods (sampling and description).
