Abstract. The study of various categories of imported items discovered in the archaeological complexes of the Urals, the Volga region and the Kama region is currently one of the pressing issues in Russian archeology, since these territories represent a distant barbarian periphery, most fragmentarily represented in the ancient written tradition. The analysis of the discovered items, which belong to various types of jewelry, allows us to get an idea of the possible centers of their production, routes and methods of penetration into this territory. The chronological framework of the work covers the period from the 3rd-2nd centuries BC to the 5th-6th centuries AD, the time of the establishment of the hegemony of the Sarmatian tribes in the steppe zone between the Volga and Ural rivers, and until the beginning of the early Middle Ages, when the ethnic composition of the region changed radically, and representatives of the Turkic language family replaced the Iranian-speaking nomads. The geographical framework includes the territory between the Volga and Ural rivers, embodied the steppes, as well as the forest-steppe and forest regions of the Kama region. The imported jewelry represents a quantitative mass of archaeological material that had a long period of existence, which indicates stable traditions, fashion and tastes of the population of different age groups and social status. The presented imported jewelry, their quantity, assortment allow us to assert that they came to the Sarmatians as a result of trade exchange from the Greek colonies of the Northern Black Sea region through the steppe route from Tanais as the most important intermediary in the Greek-barbarian trade. The insignificant part of the imported jewelry entered the territory of the barbarian hinterland through trade on the Northern branch of the Great Silk Road.
